Twenty people have chosen to attend the Excellence In Therapy workshop in Newcastle this coming weekend. This unique workshop is sponsored by IntegrityNLP.

The people who are attending range across Therapists, Hypnotherapists, NHS workers, Psychologists, Mental Health Professionals, NLP Practitioners, NLP Master Practitioners, even NLP Trainers.

The workshop is specifically about applying NLP in therapeutic settings and is delivered by Andrew T. Austin who Bill O’Hanlon ( brief therapy ) has described as the “British Milton Erickson”.

This workshop will cover topics like Guilt, Shame, Anxiety, Depression and will look at real therapeutic interventions from an NLP and neurological perspective.

Our NLP training course in Newcastle upon Tyne has a great deal of emphasis on practical application. Its not about learning 20 processes in one week and having no real skill as to how to use them. Integrity NLP practitioner courses give you the time to develop and integrate your NLP skills into your life.

Getting More of what you want with NLP

There are just two very simple parts of getting what you want using NLP’s well formed outcome. A full exploration of your outcome and then acting on the information. The full exploration is called a ‘well formed outcome’.

well formed outcome

Step 1

State what you want, your outcome in the positive. Then in your imagination, See / Feel / Hear / Taste and Smell - exactly what it will be like when you have got your outcome. You require a sensory description!

  • “I dont want to get angry” is not stated in the positive, so one way to turn this to the positive can be “I want to be calm”.
  • When I am calm “it will be good” is not a sensory description. When I am calm I will be seeing other people next to me, they will be treating me differently, specifically they are talking to me, asking me about my ideas, opinions. I can smell one ladys perfume and notice the smell of coffee. I am in a cafe. I feel relaxed and my shoulders are particularly comfortable

Step 2

Check the possible consequences

  • How will getting your outcome affect you, friends, family, others? You can think of this in terms of time, relationships, other commitments and any and all impacts your outcome will have on the relationships with these other people.
  • What will you gain, what will you lose and what will stay the same? You can think of this in terms of money, time, relationships…
  • How will you sort our potential difficulties? Think about it, what difficulties could arise? What problems are obvious what problems are hidden?
  • Where do you want this outcome, where do you not want this outcome? In which physical locations; not at home but at the office.

Step 3

Resources and Control

  • What level of control and influence can you bring to bear as resources to attaining your outcome. You have little to zero influence of winning the lottery. You can think of this as is this achievable and how can you make it more so.
  • Do you have all the Skills, Understanding, Time and Information to realise your outcome? If you require additional information / skills / time / understandings - where can you get it from, what and where are your resources?
  • How will yo overcome and barriers and hurdles?

Step 4

Do you still want this outcome?

  • So having explored, examined and gathered information and resources. Do you still want this?
  • Is getting your outcome the steps to getting something else?
  • When do you want this and what are your next steps?

If you choose to use this process for a specific outcome, run the process three times on the same outcome. Then ACT on the information you have generated. Many people know about this process but seemingly only a few actually use it - be one of those who do.

Here are some more of a series of tips that if you do them right will not only get you through Christmas smiling but the new year aswell!  These really are simple applied NLP processes.  For information about NLP courses in Newcastle and the North East click hereFor Newcastle and North East Clinical Hypnotherapy training click here.

Tip number five

Have you ever heard that old saying ‘Smile and the whole world smiles back at you?’ Its probably not entirely 100% true BUT
When you smile, a genuine smile ( not that half arsed stiff british upper lip ), people usually smile back.  You begin to change your own mood with just a little smile. Your brain and face get a little cooler.  Like Bandler said a long time ago saying the word ‘e’ or ‘ah’ over and over again have this effect. Its not new though, my Grandma told me to do it “Smile and the whole world smiles with you” - Cheers Stella - you knew it then! For a lot of real science on this ’smiling phenomena’ visit Bob Suttons page.

Tip number six

Holidays are almost upon us - hurrah!
Get out and walk for half and hour or more. There are literally hundreds of places, with trees, birds and even lakes that are within 30 minutes of Newcastle upon Tyne. The are also parks with lakes in Newcastle upon Tyne.  You will meet other people. As Hippocrates stated years ago “Walking is a mans best medicine” - Naturally this applies equally to men and women of both sexes. Wrap up warm and get some fresh air. Enjoy the left brain right brain contra-lateral exercises - yes - walking!

Last night at the nlpcafe - Newcastle upon Tyne NLP Practice group, I demonstrated a new and complete process I have developed for getting what you want while ensuring you respect and preserve you values.

How to create the future you want for yourself using some NLP processes and a whole bunch of tools and processes that are just not NLP - although the NLP Police may disagree!

Drawing from ideas from Judith De Lozier ( at the NLP Conference )
and Christina Hall, I have created a simple and robust process to

create the brilliant future you want and

to ensure the path you create has a heart.

This is a process you can run on your own or choose to have someone facilitate your creating your own experience. It will take around an hour to do it properly and thoroughly.

download this from my free nlp resources page - get on it!

Tip number three

The indulgence guilt complex.  What does that mean you may ask.  Good question.  Christmas for many of us is a time for family and friends, its also a time for excess.  Excess food, excess drink, even excess excess.  Here is a simple recipe for guilt free Christmas indulgence.  You can do this two ways, Firstly you can recognize ahead of time that you are about to indulge or have excess.  Here is the choice point.
DONT DO IT!  This may be a step two far huh?  The second way is to prepare in advance.  If you have even the slightest inclination that you will feel bad or hate your behavior or worse, yourself the next day - address the issue before hand.
Tell yourself that the ‘coming excess’ is a seasonal indulgence and you love all of you before and after the event and during that period of mild convalescence the next day, remind yourself how loverly you are.

Tip number four

How often do you watch or listen to the news on either the television or the radio or the Internet?  One sure way to depress yourself is to be at home to bad news.  Lets face it bad news sells.  One of my best friends describes this as the ‘Train Wreck Complex’.  If we were present at a car or train wreck we would ‘probably’ stay and watch, disaster sells.  Free yourself from the tyranny of bad and depressing news. STOP watching and listening to the bad news. Do this for a week and simply notice what happens to your attitude and your mood.

One of the Applications of applied NLP is Magical Spelling, developed by Cricket Kemp.

Magical Spelling is a visual learning strategy which allows people to easily remember the spelling of English words.  Our research over 20 years indicates that dramatic improvements are made in reading and writing skills when people learn this method of spelling.  The method is quick and easy to teach, requires no special materials, and can be taught to a whole class. People of any age can learn this strategy, regardless of specific learning needs such as dyslexia.

This class will take place on Saturday 5th January at Chevyside School.

Here are the first two of a series of tips that if you do them right will not only get you through Christmas smiling but the new year aswell!  These really are simple applied NLP processes.

Tip number one

A good few years ago I stopped associating with a certain group of people.  I found them really negative and very habitualised to what they ( and anyone else ) aught to do and accept in life.  I found even short exposure to these people increasingly depressing and draining of positive energy.  Life really can be what you make it.

Choose you friends well!  There is nothing worse than spending time with the terminally negative.  For these people everything is sorted into the bad category and guess what like horse dung it sticks!  Let these people chew their own legs.  Lose the negative people you called friends from your own life.  If what you have been doing ain’t working dump the chumps!  Share your time with positive and excellent people as much as you can. Notice the difference!

Tip number two

When I used to work offshore there was a genuine constant pressure to perform well.  The environment was potentially very dangerous; North Sea, Radioactive sources and very heavy drilling equipment.  Being in a good state, alert, energetic.  My boss at the time Marty told me he listened to music before a shift to put him in the ‘right state of mind’.  Coming from a man who had spent many years running a very safe shift this seems a great tip for success.

When driving or commuting two and from your place of work listen to music or recordings that you genuinely find pleasurable, fun and honestly entertaining.  It doesn’t have to be music, it could be comedy or drama.   Your looking for whatever floats yer boat and puts you in a right good state.  This is of course the lazy persons way of anchoring a good state.  Don’t you owe it to yourself to at least give it a go?

Two people were talking about buying Christmas presents, in a coffee shop in Newcastle.
I was there sitting chatting with Andy about our upcoming Master Practitioner course in 2008. The couple opposite us were really enjoying their Costa Massimo. My phone went so I excused myself from the planning and answered. The phone call was made by someone requiring some help with a phobia. The were talking and they said “… yes I have had it for several years now and you know how you cant stop yourself” It was at that juncture that I said “hold on, you just said that I cant stop myself I presume you mean ‘you’ not ‘me’”. After arranging an appointment I returned to to my conversation with Andy, planning our Master Practitioner and just knew Andy was happy with our progress.

the Meta Model essentially does two things when used ‘as intended’

  1. It assist stuck clients to change - Therapeutic
  2. It gets high quality information - Business / Pleasure / Therapeutic

Additionally the NLP Cafe, a structured, Newcastle NLP Practice group will be open for its first event on Wednesday 12th December 7-9pm.
Its a Christmas cracker at £10.00 or just £9.00 if you book online.

Our NLP Practitioner course beginning in January 2008 and the current Integrity NLP Practitioner in Newcastle will uncover the Meta Model and those who are on our next Newcastle Clinical Hypnotherapy training will leave with a well grounded and practical knowledge of applying this process therapeutically.
