In the light of the current economic difficulties Nigel, Andy & Harry have decided to wind up IntegrityNLP as a separate business entity and move the NLP training under the wing of Nigel’s Communicating Excellence.

In future Communicating Excellence will provide NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner training. Harry and Andy will do guest training spots on these trainings. To all intents and purposes the NLP trainings will look the same to trainees.

Andy will continue to do EFT and other trainings through his business Practical Wellbeing.

The good news is:

We will still be running top notch NLP trainings in the North East of England

The NLP Cafe will continue to offer excellent opportunities to practice your NLP skills and learn new techniques

The members only social media site for our trainees will continue

The IntegrityNLP website with articles and resources will remain in place for the forseeable future.

Our andy and nigel [at] integritynlp [dot] co [dot] uk email addresses will still work

The bad news is:

There isn’t really any bad news, what we offer continues in a slightly different format.

Thanks to all our previous trainees of both Practitioner, Master Practitioners, Introductions and various short courses. We appreciate you coming to us for training and we hope you have gained as much from the experience as we have.

The Autumn 2010 ChangeCamp is the fourth ChangeCamp, a low cost, wide ranging self development / therapeutic change workshop in the North East of England. It’s a unique grass roots event and there are five reasons why you might want to attend.

1. To try things out

There are acres of shelving in bookshops put aside for self development / self help topics. Lots and lots of training courses and seminars available from big names and people you have never heard of.

If you had an inexhaustible supply of money and time you could read all the books and take all the trainings. It wouldn’t matter if some of them weren’t for you or even were just plain rubbish.

Most people have a limited amount of time and money. If that’s the case then ChangeCamp is a great place to satisfy your curiosity about some of these approaches without eating massively into your time (it’s only one day) and money (it’s only £10).

You can find out about things you have only read or heard about, try out trainers, find out more before you decide where to put the time and money you have got.

2. You meet like minded people

If you are interested in self development work, therapeutic techniques and new ways of thinking about things, it is entirely possible that your colleagues, family and friends think you are nuts!

If you are interested in these kinds of things it is very hard to explain to someone who isn’t what is so fascinating and worthwhile about them.

At ChangeCamp you will meet people who are interested in the same kinds of things that you are.

Participants are interested in change and self development and they don’t mind talking about it and sharing their experiences.

If you are the only person in your circle of friends that is interested in this kind of stuff then ChangeCamp can be an oasis in the desert.

3. It’s food for the soul

The workshops at ChangeCamp are organised around self-development and change. Previous attendees tell us that attending the event has helped them, made them think, and given them ideas about what is possible.

If you feel there is something missing in your everyday life, then ChangeCamp may be the occasion to come to be refreshed at a level that everyday life can’t match.

4. It’s fun

Although ChangeCamp presentations can be about serious issues it is not a solemn event. You will hear a lot of chatter, laughter and signs of people having a thoroughly good time.

Every ChangeCamp so far has ended with a Laughter Workshop, which is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face.

5. It wont break the bank

There are more than a dozen quality presentations by people who have given their time and skill for free. The only thing that needs to be paid for is the hire of the venue.

That is why ChangeCamp, a total of more than 24 hours training and workshops costs just £10 and a food contribution to the shared lunch.

For more information or to sign up online visit www.changecamp.co.uk

Seth Godin, one of my favorite authors, writes about states in his usual excellent style.

Over the weekend I visited one of my favorite places. It didn’t matter that I hadn’t been there in a while, or didn’t know most of the people I encountered. The second I walked in, heard the noise, saw the walls… even the way it smelled… I was transported.

It’s incredible to think about–a room could magically change the way I felt. A physical room with the right memories can do this in just a heartbeat. So can a metaphorical one, even a brand.

The states of your emotions (your moods and passions) are like rooms in a house.

Anxiety, flow, joy, fear, exhaustion, connection, contemplation, emotional labor… each one can be visited at will if we choose. Sometimes by entering a real room, but more often in metaphor…

You can read the whole piece here

It’s a great post and suggests some ways in which we can think about how we choose to feel and how to get to those feelings that we find important.

It only scratches the surface of what’s possible in choosing, creating and selecting the way you can feel in any given context.

States and what’s called ’state control’ is one of the key features of any NLP Practitioner training and it’s certainly one of the key features in ours.

We still have places on our certified NLP Practitioner training starting in September, click on the link to find out more.

PS: We are extending our special double offer of a £350 discount off our practitioner training if you sign up for the Bill O’Hanlon Geography Of Possibilities workshop on September 11th & 12th. The only difference is the price of the Bill O’Hanlon version has gone up to £195 – still a bargain.

Before we were able to do that our trainees handed Nigel, Harry, Shirley and myself our certificates. You can see mine here.

This has never happened before and I am very touched by the gesture. I can’t think of many trainings where the trainees give certificates to the trainers.

Thank you Felicity, Mike, Karen, Christine, John, Billy, Keith, Lesley for making my day. It’s been a pleasure to work with you and I look forward to seeing you again

Rapport is the second pillar of NLP helping us connect with other people so that we can be more influential and more influenced.

Rapport is nothing new or special. We grow up immersed in a social world having to interact one way or another with a huge variety of people. Just about everyone has rapport skills to some degree or another.

Most people think that good rapport skills are an innate gift of a select few. NLP takes a different stand and assumes that rapport is a skill, something that we learn and is learn-able.

One of the many dimensions of rapport is known as matching and mirroring. When we are in sync with someone else we tend to match their body postures and gestures.

You’ve probably seen couples in restaurants who are obviously very much in tune looking like mirror images. One person reaches for the glass, the other does the same, so quickly it looks like just one movement. One leans in the other follows. One leans back the other does the same. If you look closely you will probably see that they are even breathing in rhythm.

In this context the matching and mirroring comes from a deep rapport, which leads to matching and mirroring which leads to still deeper rapport. It’s a virtuous cycle.

You may also have noticed in restaurants couples who are obviously not getting along, their postures are radically different, they are having stilted conversation or none at all. Not a happy sight.

We take all this for granted, it’s natural or innate. However what would it be like if you developed this natural ability so that you could enhance rapport between yourself and your partner, family, students, patients, colleagues and all the other humans that you meet?

In NLP trainings we teach people how to develop their natural rapport abilities through specific exercises. If you can develop rapport intentionally then you can be much more influential.

Here are some examples of communication where I think it might be useful to have better rapport.

Parents helping their children grow up and thrive

Teachers helping their pupils to learn effectively

Doctors being able to listen to and help their patients

Partners, spouses, friends wanting to understand and be understood

Therapists and counsellors being able to listen to and help their clients.

Managers wanting to connect with their workers

What about all the people who want to get you to do the things you don’t want to do, won’t rapport training make them more manipulative?

First. Most people have pretty good BS detectors. A skilled manipulator may get away with things at first but after a while most people will smell a rat.

Second. If you have developed your rapport and calibration skills in an NLP training then you will know what is going on. Learning how to do rapport consciously makes you very aware of people who are using rapport ‘techniques’ on you.

On our trainings you learn how to gain rapport you also learn how to break it when you need to. There are lots of ways to sabotage people’s efforts to misuse these techniques.

Our next Introducing NLP training is on Saturday June 19th and Sunday June 20th in Newcastle. We introduce rapport skills on the first day with a lot of exercises and supervised practice. We also cover a lot of other skills and processes all for the princely sum of just £95.

To find out more click on this link, to book online click here.

Suggestions

When you are in a public space look around and notice who is in rapport (matching posture, gesture, tone of voice) and who is out of rapport. Rather than trying to analyse what their body language means just observe and notice the flow (or not) of the non-verbal interactions between the people.

When you are in a talking with somebody, notice something about their posture – crossed legs, head tilted, leaning forward or back, etc and very gently start to adopt parts of that posture as you are talking.

What happens does it help the flow of conversation or hinder it?

Tip: Be gradual about it, if you suddenly leap into the same posture they will experience it as mimicry rather than rapport (they probably wont appreciate you for that).
